Min And Val Inspiration

Today I was flipping through my copy of 100 Years of Fashion Illustration and I happened to see a couple of illustrations by Jo Brocklehurst of sort of punky rockers with green hair, and then I found my brother's old box of illustration markers and decided it was fate. I usually draw from a picture but with this I sort of just went with it. I'm trying to think of a name for him...

On a completely separate note I discovered G-Dragon last night and now I'm obsessed. He's like, Korean Lady Gaga with a punky little attitude and HIS OUTFITS ARE ON PAR. ON. PAR. #Newstyleicon

I want all the outfits in this right now. I mean that Prada fur coat alone is reason enough for this video to exist. I actually cried out in pain when he dragged it on the ground, though.

First Sketch of The New Year!

I got a new sketchbook for Christmas and it's taken a little getting used to since the paper is a lot smoother than what I'm used to.

Sick of Screaming Let Us In, The Wires Got the Best of Him

I had a pretty tough week this week, so I got home and drew a little. This picture is based off the song "Wires" by The Neighborhood....and yeah it turned out a little freakier than I had intended. It was sort of interesting to draw just from imagination, since I usually draw from a picture. 

I Was Scared of Pretty Girls and Starting Conversations

Sunday mornings are my favorite time of the whole week. You've forgotten the stress and events of the last week, and you haven't yet remembered the responsibilities of the week to come. You can make yourself a coffee, sit down with a book or a sketchpad while the oblique golden light sifts in through the windows, and you can feel like your life is your own for those few fragile hours. 

So this Sunday I was snuggled up in a romper and crochet sweater, full and happy from walnut pancakes, and I got the urge to draw something...as I do from time to time. I ended up with a girl's face- something I draw far too often.(Is that creepy?) 

Anyways, I tried out some new blending stumps I had gotten. The first picture is just plain and the second is sort of edit-y. I didn't know which would look better, so you decide.

I promise there's a Sleepy Hollow review coming as soon as I get over my procrastination.

It's Alive!

My scanner finally came back from the dead! I haven't been able to scan anything for weeks so now I finally get to and post all my failure to the world wide web. I'm pretty excited, too.

This is actually from last year but I don't think I ever posted it. There was an assignment to illustrate a line from Romeo and Juliet so I chose
"Swear not by the moon, th'inconsistent moon, that monthly changes in her circled orb, lest thy love prove likewise variable."

I took a stab at the Mirror's Edge poster, but just using three colors and more of posterized style. My interest kind of petered out after the figure and the logo, so the city and text are sub-par.

I did Cara Delevigne in pencil. Some charcoal from another picture rubbed off on it though, so all the shading is messed up- I'll probably re-do it in the future.

I started reading The Catcher In The Rye  last night and felt the need to draw Holden. Except of course I had to make things hard on myself, so I challenged myself to do under ten minutes and with charcoals. This is the outcome... As far as the book, I'll probably review it when I finish (I'm about halfway through, so hopefully in a couple days?). I like it a lot so far... I can read through a pretty good chunk of it in one sitting without feeling like I have to stop and digest, but it's not shallow or anything either, and I like that the narration is so stylized and conversational. It's not my favorite, but it's definitely a good book.
